Crying is pretty much as regular an occurance to me as blinking these days. Whether it’s tears because I am tired or annoyed that life dealt my boy a difficult deck of cards. Or because I am overjoyed that he is managing to sit himself down on a slide for the first time, instead of going head first or backwards.
One thing that always sets me off is music. Where words fail, music speaks (thanks Hans Christian Andersen).
There is music with very little meaning in terms of lyrics that just sets me off with memories. Like the CBeebies season songs. It’s the same songs every year, and every year we’re not massively further on from where we were the year before, and I am overwhelmed with sadness hearing the children sing. Will we be jumping in the leafs this Autumn? That would be no. Again.
Then there is the song at the start of Frozen that just reminds me of being in hospital after a day of seizures and trying my hardest not to cry when a nurse came in and asked me the dreaded question “are you ok?“. Must. Keep. Game. Face.
Disney songs can set me off easily anyway – which leads me to Toy Story. Brody loves Pixar films and watching the song videos for them on YouTube (God bless the YouTube inventor). Now I can’t listen to You’ve Got A Friend In Me without wanting to hold him tight (and have an hormonal breakdown). Randy Newman has a lot to answer for. That’s all.
“You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You got troubles and I got ’em too
There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you
We stick together, we can see it through
‘Cause you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
Some other folks might be a little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too
Maybe
But none of them
Will ever love you the way I do
It’s me and you boy
And as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me”
Me too.Was at a spinning class-still not sure what the song was “you have the strongest heart I’ve ever seen”shit.Someone is singing about Pearl and I’m on a bike pedalling like mad trying not to cry.Same song on playlist as I was running and weeping down the canal.Just fab

Ooh it’s especially hard when you’re out and about. Happens to me on the nursery run sometimes and I have to snap out of it before going in!
Thanks for getting it! X
